Sarhad Awami Forestry Ittehad, an alliance of forest owners and NGOs, on Friday urged the Frontier government to lift the ban on cutting of forests in Hazara and Malakand areas. Talking to newsmen at the Peshawar Press Club, SAFI chief Riaz Mohammad Khan of Bhogarmang asked the government to allow them systematic cutting of the forests, otherwise the 'timber mafia' which was already involved in deforestation would cut down all the saplings in both the areas.
