The Perumatty grama panchayat president A.Krishnan in a memorandum to Chief Minister A.K.Antony has threatened to go on an indefinite fast before the Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Limited factory in Plaachimada in Kerala from February 21 if the Government does not initiate action against the unit immediately in the light of the findings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee that there were pesticide residue in the soft drinks and the toxic waste in sludge. Krishnan said that the panchayat had brought to the notice of the Government that the Coke factory in Plaachimada was indulging in over-exploitation of water and indulging in environmental pollution.
