To enhance availability of natural gas, the government has paced import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on open general license and Petronet LNG will be setting up a 5 mt LNG terminal at Dahej by December 2003, Petroleum Minister Ram Naik said here on Thursday. Addressing Petrotech 2003 conference the minister said that the first shipment of LNG from Qatar is expected by January next year. Terming the oil industry to be on a fast growth track, Mr Naik said that the need of the hour is to look seriously at the challenges before it. An unprecedented boom in the automobile sector, especially in the passenger car and two-wheeler segments in the last decade, has aggravated the problem of vehicular pollution, further warranting more focused attention and remedial action.
