A total of 28 relief camps have been opened and 850 people evacuated across two rural blocks in East Singhbhum district. Water level in the Kharkai river continued to rise, submerging low-lying areas of Jamshedpur city and affecting 6,500 people. Meanwhile, rainfall continued throughout the state. There were frequent power outages in some areas.
"Dumaria block has been cut off as a low-lying bridge that connects it to the rest of the district has been submerged by flash floods. Musabani has also been affected," said East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Kaushal. ENS
Flood alert sounded in 28 bihar districts
Patna: Bihar government on Sunday sounded an alert in 28 flood-prone districts following a warning issued by the IMD after Cyclone Phailin made landfall in Orissa and headed north. Bihar experienced incessant drizzle accompanied by strong winds since morning. The IMD has forecast heavy downpour in the state over the next 48 hours. Two NDRF teams have been deployed in Supaul and one each in Darbhanga and Gopalganj districts with IMD predicting heavy rainfall in north Bihar districts — particularly those located in the upper catchment area, bordering Nepal, that may cause Koshi and Gandak rivers to be in spate.
