The Community Forest Bill was passed in Thailand in the first reading for scrutiny yesterday.The legislation came in six drafts, one of them the first to have been proposed by 50,000 eligible voters. Central to the bill is permission for forest reserves to be declared community forests. The dual status must be maintained at all costs to prevent the reserves being commercially developed.
