At a time when the Environment and Forest Ministry has mooted a proposal to appoint green guards in every village to protect the forests, the State Government's move to amend the forest laws which permit the establishment of saw mills within 10 km of forest area has raised many eyebrows.Noted environmentalist, Banks Bihari Das, has demanded the enactment of a Tree Act in the State and strongly opposed the State Government's move to amend the forest laws.
