Plan mooted to check deforestation in Meghalaya

After almost ten frustrating years of failed attempts to implement its village reserved forest scheme in Meghalaya, the State forest department has now turned to the local community for reinforcing the efforts. The Village Reserved Forest (VRF) Scheme, notified afresh, and under a new garb, in February, seeks to arrest eco-degradation in the State and to bring large areas under forest cover through the active participation of the people.
