Plan of attack for an attacking plant

Kudzo, the 'Green Menace' is a vine that rises each spring and summer to coat tall pines, cascade down embarkments, drape itself over abadoned houses and cars, and give the landscape the look of a lumpy green blanket. Unchecked it will cover everything in its path, depriving trees of sunlight, choking life out of ferns and undergrowth, and encroaching on farmlands and yards. The latest and perhaps the most clever, kudzu-control strategy is being developed at North Carolina State University, where entomologist David Orr and his colleagues are working on a hybrid kudzu eating bug that gorges on the greens, then obligingly allows itself to be eaten alive.
