Plan to check water problem

The district administration is chalking out a strategy to mitigate the drinking water problem in the district, said district collector Sridhar here on Monday. The collector visited the municipal corporation offi-ce and inspected various de-partments. Mayor Parusu-ram, deputy mayor Sriramulu, commissioner Naga-bhushanam, health officer Adiseshu accompanied the collector. The collector also recei-ved memorandums from the people at the council hall. Later, talking to newsmen, the collector said that the six municipalities and the municipal corporation had submitted proposals to mitigate the drinking water problem during the ensuing summer. After going through all those proposals, a strategy would be chalked out to ensure drinking water supply to the people. As part of the programme, borewells would be deepened wherever necessary. Likewise, new borewells would be sanctioned at necessary places and if need be water would be supplied through tankers. The government is likely to allocate funds to mitigate the drought situation, Mr Sridhar said adding, once the funds were released the works would be taken up on a war footing. The collector further said that steps are being taken to improve sanitation in all the municipalities and corporations. Vehicles to shift garbage were procured with the grants under 12th finance funds. This had made the shifting of garbage easy and fast. Steps are being taken to improve the sanitary situation further in the next two months. He disclosed that the central park in the Anantapur Municipal Corporation would be developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs. The RDT had agreed to sanction Rs 30 lakhs to develop the park. The remaining Rs 20 lakhs would be procured by consulting different companies. He advised the municipal officials to contact architects on the development works to be taken up in the park. Likewise, the flyover railway bridge which was kept pending would be completed by the next financial year, the collector said and assured to speak to TTD EO about the land which was obstructing the construction of the flyover bridge. He further disclosed that revised administrative orders were also issued, in view of the escalation of costs for the construction of flyover bridge.
