With only 3.48 per cent of the population living below the poverty line (BPL) in Jammu and Kashmir, a major thrust is being laid on nutrition, as the state is deemed to become the first in the country to have a negligible poverty line by 2007. Disclosing this, eminent agriculture scientist, Prof M.S. Swaminathan, observed that there was no food insecurity in Jammu and Kashmir where over 70 per cent of the population was dependent on agriculture.
