Plans to divert Sandakphu trekkers to Senchal

In order to reduce pressure on Sandakphu situated in the Shingalila national park close to Darjeeling, the West Bengal state forest department has decided to introudce two new trek routes in the Senchal wild life sanctuary this year. The sancturary is located in Ghoom and houses twin lakes that serve as the main source of water supply to Darjeeling. In addition to the trek routes, the forest department has undertaken massive afforestation works at Senchal. According to DFO, Wild Life , Mr Raju Das, the department has already raised plants on 50 hectares of blank patch at Senchal.
