West Bengal encourages child labour by fixing wages for juvenile agricultural workers---------- While child labour is banned nationwide, the West Bengal government has not realized it yet. Recently, the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government framed a fixed wage for juvenile agricultural labourers. The joint order by the agriculture and labour departments fixed Rs 61.35 as the daily wage. If the child is given a meal on site, the pay drops to Rs 58.69. West Bengal has 8.6 lakh child workers. Only Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar have more. It also has a high number of school dropouts
