Environmentalists in Himachal Pradesh have dashed off urgent appeals to the State and the Central Governments to reconsider the decision of lifting a 16 year-old ban on felling of trees for commercial purposes. The group of like-minded individuals owing allegiance to the Himalayan Environment Trust(HET), have requested the Union Minister for Environment & Forests, Mr. T.R. Baalu, to intervene immediately and ensure imposition of the ban in the interest of environment protection.
