The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has suggested that all the pre-1980 encroachments by Schuduled Tribes on forest land should be regularised by the Minsitry of Environment and Forests by the year 2000 AD, regardless of when the decision to regularise the encroachments was taken by the concerned state governments.
