A system that was developed to plot the path of nuclear emissions following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 could help to improve the monitoring of air pollution. The Name System, developed by the UK's Met Office, takes pollution emission data from across Europe and applies it to a computerised model that can forecast weather patterns.
