Plutonium shipment could enter South African waters within days

  • 07/12/1998

Greenpeace arrived in Cape Town to warn the officials and the public about an imminent plutonium shipment which could enter South African waters. Two British-flagged vessels, the Pacific Teal and the Pacific Pintail, are on their way from Europe to Japan carrying around an estimated 446 kilograms of weapons usable plutonium fuel. The shipment undermines international non-proliferation objectives and puts the environment and the health of millions of people in danger.
