Even though no one would entirely disagree that illegal fellling is prevalent in the lush green forests of Arunachal Pradesh and other north-eastern states, the 'blanket ban' on felling (which will complete two years in December this year)has brought with it a host of associated hitches. The inordinate delays at different levels, while putting in place the support parameters, outlined by the Supreme Court, have all but cut the lifeline of the economy in districts such as Changland and Jairampur in Arunachal Pradesh and Tinsukia in Assam, which count a great deal on the plywood industry.
