PM, Bush will work out action plan on N-deal

The next act in the nuclear-deal drama will unfold after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh holds talks with President George Bush in a pre-breakfast meeting on July 9 on the sidelines of the G8 summit in Japan. That's when he is expected to team up with Bush to run the last lap on a deal that continues to teeter on the precipice. In fact, Singh is expected to direct his officials to complete the safeguards agreement with IAEA after his return from Hokkaido in Japan. The Singh-Bush summit is expected to work out a tentative plan of action for the next two stages, how approvals from IAEA and the Nuclear Suppliers Group can be "telescoped', and how soon can the deal land before the US Congress for a final ratification before it turns into the proverbial pumpkin.
