PM urges SAARC to stress poverty alleviation, infrastructure development

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Sunday urged the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to stress on the poverty alleviation and infrastructure development. At a meeting with SAARC General Secretary Dr Shree Kanta Sharma, who reached the PM's official residence at Baluwatar this morning, PM Koirala discussed on the expansion of south Asian assistance. PM Koirala also expressed commitment to extend all kinds of support to the SAARC countries on behalf of Nepal, PM's advisor for foreign affairs Aditya Baral informed. At the event, Sharma also handed over an invitation of upcoming SAARC conference to be held on August at Colombo in Srilanka. The SAARC is an economic and political organization of eight countries in South Asia. Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General Rookmangud Katuwal called on PM Koirala this morning and briefed him about the latest security situation of the country.
