Scores of endangered spotted and hog deer from the Kaziranga National Park in Assam are ending up steaming on plates on roadside food stalls closer to the Wildlife sanctuary. The delicacies served in theses dhabas include boiled venison soaked in chilli soup and splashed with a pint of rum, or a steaming hot slice of smoked venison laid out attractively in a plantain leaf with lots of mint sauce and onions.
