Bangladeshis got a re-glimpse of the country's fast disappearing wild Asian elephant last month. A newspaper carried photograhps of one of the endangered animals, shot dead and awash in blood after its tusks and toenails had been ripped out by poachers. Conservationists were outraged. But for many, the most shocking aspect of the elephants death was that it occured in south eastern Bangladesh's Eidgadlife Sancturary, one of the country's few remaining elephant refuges.
