Oct. 7: As many as Rs 2 lakh worth fish stocks died in the village pond of Santaravuru of Chinaganjam mandal due to poisoning of water on Thursday. The Rajaka Sangham members, who took the pond on lease for Rs 13,000 per annum, came to the pond and found all the fish dead. They found that the water smelt foul due to mi-xing of poisonous pellets.
They immediately infor-med village leaders and asked people not to use the water. The sarpanch, Mr K. Venkata Subbaiah, said that they had informed the higher officials of the panchayat department. The Rajaka Sangham leaders said that they had lodged a complaint over the issue with Chinaganjam police and would clean the pond after police inspected it.
