The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says scientists have confirmed that most of the gases responsible for ozone depletion are produced by human activities. According to a June 23 NOAA press release, government and academic scientists, analyzing air samples trapped in ice cores from two sites in Antarctica and one site in Greenland, have shown that major ozone depleting gases are not present in detectable amounts until the 20th century.
