BHUBANESWAR: The Supreme Court refusal to grant stay on the construction of the Polavaram irrigation project has exposed the State Government, said Utkal Bharat president Kharabela Swain here today.
Addressing a media conference, Swain said Polavaram project was never a threat to the State and this was clarified by his party earlier. But the ruling BJD which is in the habit of blaming the Centre for all the ills of the State made it a political issue against the Congress-led UPA Government to cover up its misdeeds.
"This was nothing but an attempt by the scam-ridden Naveen Government to divert the attention of the people," he said.
Polavaram project is about 80 km away from the Orissa border and it will have little impact on the State. The Government is unnecessarily raking up the issue to get political mileage.
The Supreme Court has rightly rejected the State Government demand for a stay on the construction of Polavaram project, he said adding, the apex court rejection has vindicated his party stand.
He equally castigated the Congress and the BJP for trying to gain political mileage from the issue.
