Policy change: Water may cost less in new areas

  • 02/11/2006

Almost 70 per cent of the population in the newly-merged areas of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) are likely to be affected by the new water policy to be decided in the next two months by AMC. The policy will give residents an idea about what charges they will bear for a swig of clear Narmada water. But sources say the amount will be less than what they were paying under Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda). In erstwhile nagarpalika areas, residents got water either through the existing distribution network of nagarpalikas, AUDA connections or private bores. Except for those with private bores, the rest pay one-time connection charges, annual pro rata charges and annual water tax.
