The Kerala state forest department is framing a new policy aimed at giving the fringe population a considerable role in forest management. Conceived as part of the Centre's newly-mooted Forest Development Agency, the policy will empower neighbourhood groups to manage its forests with its own rules. The Government will extend total financial aid to any new project these groups have for restoring the lost greenery in the respective area.
