Polio immunisation drive geared up in Barpeta

Following reports on polio detection cases in Morigaon district, the Barpeta District Health Society has geared up immunisation activities to make the district polio-free. In this connection, the District Task Force meeting was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner recently, which was presided over by ex-Deputy Commissioner Rajib Lochan Duwarah. Joint Director of Health Services, Barpeta, Dr Bimal Chandra Saikia gave an overview of the immunisation activities carried out in the past year and sought co-operation from all the departments in making the forthcoming pulse polio drive a success. The NGO representatives present in the meeting assured to extend their help in creating awareness among the masses. On August 8, a district-level orientation meeting of ANMs, supervisers, SDM & HOs and Sectoral Medical Officers of the district on pulse polio was conducted in the MC College auditorium under the presidentship of the present Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Phanidhar Kalita. While addressing the gathering, he said that it is the duty of one and all to work together for the success of the forth-coming pulse polio rounds. He also added that district administration will not entertain any negligence on the part of the health workers and supervisors. The day-long sessions were marked by interactive discussions with the participants and ended with a solemn pledge taken by all the participants present stating that they will perform their duties with full dedication not only for polio but other programmes as well. Joint Director Health Services, Barpeta urged one and all not to leave any child below 5 years of age without administering polio drops and hence make the district polio free.
