It did not take very long. About three months after the Assam forest department evicted about 5000 families of encroaches from forests in and around Guwahati, they have begun streaming back to where they had lived for many years. That tells a tale of the government's oft-proclaimed 'firm stand' on facilitate regeneration and restoration of at least some of the lost tree cover.
