The "politics of water", as some irrigation experts in Sachivalaya put it, has played havoc with the people of Saurashtra-Kutch and north Gujarat regions of the state. With every change of guard in the capital, the peiorities and projects for supplying potable water to the people undergo drastic changes, not only creating uncertainty but also prolonging the agony of the suffering masses. Be it the Narmada pipeline project, the ambitious Kalpasar scheme or other minor and major irrigation projects, the personal likes and dislikes of political masters have directly and indirectly contributed to the delay in solving the drinking water problem.
