Pollution Board curb on use of idols

Nagercoil: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has announced restriction in the immersion of Vinayaka idols in water bodies.
According to Collector B.Jothi Nirmala, the immersion of clay Vinayaka idols in water bodies during Vinayaka Chathurthi festival has been practised every year in the district.

However, in recent years, Vinayaka idols made of plaster of Paris were immersed, resulting in water pollution.
The public was asked to immerse idols made of raw clay and without any chemical coatings, avoid immersion of idols with chemical paints and not to immerse the idols in seashore or lakes.
Notified places
The idols should be taken at least 500 metres into the sea and immersed only in places notified by the Government.
The police have already made elaborate security arrangements for the immersion, starting Friday.
The public was asked to take out processions only in the allowed routes and not use cone speaker and not raise objectionable slogans.
Procession routes
Shiv Sena activists will take out a procession from Nagaraja Thidal to Kanyakumari via Kottar, Edalakudi, Suchindram, Vazukkamparai, Mantharamputhur and Kottaram on Friday.
Similarly the Hindu Maha Sabha and Hindu Makkal Vazurimai Iyakkam will take out a procession from Nagaraja Thidal to Sothavilai beach via Kottar, Beach Road, Mathusothanapuram, Parakkai and Thengamputhur on Saturday.
Hindu Munnani and Bharathiya Janata Party will also take out the procession on the same day from Manavalakurich Junction to Chinnavilai Beach via Vadakkanbakam, Thariuvai, Pillayarkovil, Babuji street and Senkuzi.
