Barely days after the controversial move to cut the trees at Campal in Panjim, Goa was shelved following public outcry, the municipal garden in Ponda is now threatened with a similar fate and for a similar reason. The proposal to cut a part of the garden in order to widen the road has upset residents and local environmentalists in the town. The controversy was sparked off when Deputy Chief Minister Ravi Naik, urged the council to pass a resolution to cut a part of the municipal garden in order to widen the road. The statement alarmed local environmentalists and residents, who insisted that there was not need to reduce the size of the garden, in a bid to regulate the flow of traffic.
