SRINAGAR Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday dedicated to the people of Jammu and Kashmir its biggest power project owned by the state, called the Baglihar Hydroelectric Project. The project, inaugurated by him by pressing a remote button at Chanderkote in Ramban district, about 150 km south of here, is a run-of-the river scheme on Chenab river. With that, the first unit of 180 MW of capacity started generating electricity. The other two units of 150 MW of capacity each will begin commercial generation of power within next one-and-a-half month, officials said. The installed capacity of the stage I of the project is 450 MW, which is more than the cumulative 309 MWs generated in the state during the last 60 years. The authorities here termed the commissioning of the project an important milestone in Jammu and Kashmir
