A huge amount of electricity is wasted when the streetlights stay on during the day. In the computerised systems, the streetlights are programmed to be switched on at a certain time even though the sun has not set. In this streetlighting system developed by Rutul Modi and Punit Gupta, each streetlight will be fitted with a light dependent register which will control the energy consumption of that particular light pillar.
