Power supply curtailed for industries in U.P.

Atiq Khan Bid to tide over power crisis in the State Last nail in the coffin, says Assocham LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) order to suspend electricity supply to industrial units from 10 PM to 6 AM threatened to hamper the progress of industrial development in the State. The order, which became effective from Friday night, was issued in a bid to tide over the ongoing power crisis. With the demand for power during peak hours pegged at around 8028 megawatt and the availability at around 7128 MW, the UPPCL has been forced to emergency power cuts to the tune of about 1000 MW. For meeting the demand for electricity, 4300 MW was drawn from the Central Generating Stations (CGS) by the Power Corporation on Friday. In addition, power was being purchased from the other States at the rate of Rs 8 to Rs. 10 per unit. The demand for power has risen on account of the ongoing month of Ramzan with the Uttar Pradesh Government directing the Power Corporation to ensure uninterrupted supply to 15 cities
