It's been home to popular trade fairs ever since 1956 when it was marked for the purpose by the Land and Development Office. But the 149-acre Pragati Maidan is also designated a District Park under both the 2001 as well as the new 2021 Delhi Masterplan. And, according to an earlier Supreme Court ruling, no construction can take place either in a green-belt area or in a Masterplan District Park. DDA officials, however, say that they will look into the matter and consider change in land use according to norms. Further, ITPO officials say that there were several proposals made by the Delhi Traffic Police to relocate Pragati Maidan to Dwarka and Greater Noida.
