The government tightened metal scrap import norms, even as it admitted that the recent consignments that contained explosives originated from war-ravaged Iraq. Pre-shipment inspection of cargo through approved certifying agencies has been made mandatory for all future consignments of unshredded scrap. Imports of unshredded scrap will be allowed only through designated ports, to be notified by the Director General of Foreign Trade shortly.
