Six live coelacanth were seen by divers off the north-eastern coast of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) in two different dives recently, it was announced yesterday. "This means there must be a large colony that was hiding from the world all this time," expedition leader Pieter Venter said at a media briefing here. The find in the St Lucia Marine Protected Area was also the first sighting of the rare species by divers, outside a submersible craft.
