The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has directed the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to prepare an action plan for mapping noise pollution and a mitigation plan, besides identifying hotspots. The direction comes on a March 15 order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), asking the CPCB to categorise cities on the basis of noise pollution and propose a remedial plan within three months. Subsequently, the CPCB identified 46 metropolitan cities across the country for noise mapping. The central board has asked the HSPCB to submit a report of the action plan and get it executed by November 30. As for the mitigation plan, the deadline is December 31. — TNS
