Speaking at World Convention on Climate Change at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh, former prime minister of Sweden Dr Ola Ullsten said that the key to long-term environment conservation and sustenance was to examine and incorporate pricing mechanisms for natural resources. Addressing policy makers, civil society groups and environment experts at the convention held recently, Ullsten spoke about the increasing chasm between the supply of financial and natural resources. The convention was inaugurated by Himachal chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and saw active participation from corporate houses, government agencies and prominent individuals in various panel discussions spread over three days. Scientific advisor to the PMO Rangan Dutta, Professor John Daniels from University of Miami, former MD Cadbury Schweppes Mathew Cadbury and planning commission member Professor VL Chopra also attended the meet. A panel examined the role of media in combating climate change. Chaired by Pooran Pandey from the Times Group, the panel comprised representatives from different media houses and discussed how the media could act as a catalyst of change by spreading awareness and holding agencies, both government and private, accountable for their inability to check pollution. The convention also saw the presentation of the Golden Peacock Awards for corporate governance in eleven categories. Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd, ONGC, NIFT, Titan Industries ltd, Infosys and Tata BP Solar were among those felicitated.
