A group from the Muroran Institute of Technology, Japan said it has developed a way to recycle polyethylene waste. Discarded plastic items made from this general-purpose resin are now either burned or buried. But with the new method, 60% of the waste can be converted into aromatic compounds such as benzene usable as raw materials in making various chemical and medical products.
