Project for purifying all sullage nullahs approved

Punjab government has accorded approval to the project for purifying all the sullage nullahs (drains) including Hadayara Drain in Lahore. For this purpose, water treatment plants will be installed in a phased manner. After proper treatment of sullage water, it will be disposed off in River Ravi so that the riverine ecology would be protected.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Environment Protection, Punjab Col. (Retd.) Shuja Khanzada while presiding over a meeting in Lahore. The Minister said that disposal of Hadayara drain into River Ravi will be done after water treatment in the first phase.
He said that action will be taken against all those industries in Punjab which are adding pollution in the atmosphere without proper filtration of industrial waste gases in their chimneys. It will ensure healthy environment for the people residing in localities near the industrial areas.
He said that a meeting of all the stakeholders which are linked with the Environment Protection Department will be convened very soon. In this regard, Terms of Reference have been sent to all the relevant institutions.
Col. Retd. Shuja Khanzada said that for this purpose a strategy will be designed after a detailed discussion with all the institutions and NGOs.
Every institution will be bound to follow this strategy and will present an implementation report to the Environment Protection Department after every six months, the Minister added.
