Proposal to open elephant rehab centre

A decision has been taken to submit a proposal to the Central government with the intention to establish a rehabilitation and training centre of elephants in Hemavati backwater region of Hassan district, informed Forest Minister C H Vijaya Shankar. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of Ambedkar Jayanthi celebration on Thursday, the minister said capturing rogue elephants and shifting them to another place would only provide temporary solution to the existing problem. Therefore, there is a necessity to tame the rogue elephants. Talks have been held in this regard with the Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh, he informed.
