Governor Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday appealed people to make optimum individual efforts to maintain balance of environment so that the coming generation could be protected from the dangers of it. The Governor, while speaking during her inaugural speech of Environment Conclave cum Paryavaran Mela at Audrey House here on Tuesday, also asked people to plant more and more trees and contribute in maintaining balance of environment.
A week long ‘Environmental Conclave’ and ‘Paryavaran Mela’ is being organized by Yugantar Bharti to showcase different dimensions of environment and to minimise adverse impact of different types of pollution on it. President of Central Pollution Control Board SP Singh Parihar was Chief Guest for the programme.
Addressing the gathering during the programme, former Chief Minister Arjun Munda attributed intellectual dishonesty for increasing problem of environmental disbalance, while Food and Supply Minister Saryu Roy said that it was just a matter of priority and announced that he will initiate a drive after the conclave so that political parties get compelled to include the issue in their manifesto during 2019 Lok Sabha Elections that steps they will take for the conservation of environment if they come into power.
“It is my humble request to the Non Governmental Organizations and every individual to pay special attention towards cleanliness and plant more and more trees and contribute in conservation of environment,” said the Governor. Saryu Roy has been doing a commendable job in the field of conservation of Environment, she added.
“I expect that through this conclave a positive discussion on topics related to problems of environment and solutions to it could be done inspiring people towards conservation of environment,” said the Governor. It is a universal fact that conservation of environment has become a challenge before the world and it is a topic of discussion that how one can move forward on the path of development conserving the environment, she added.
Roy said that he intended to create awareness the issue in such a way that political parties are enforced to include conservation of environment in their election manifesto by 2019. Special focus will be made on the ways and means of its protection and conservation during the conclave, he added.
“After the Mela, we will start a drive among the political and social organizations in such a way that they get compelled of including the issue in their election manifesto during 2019 Parliamentary Elections describing how they are going to conserve environment if they come to power,” said Roy. This is first ever endeavour made by us and will be continued in future also, he added.
“Our objective is to make conservation of environment a mass movement, as we are directly inviting devastation in the name of development,” Roy said. Reckless development has been bringing more losses to the society than profit, he added.
Munda, however, was of the view that intellectual dishonesty is the most important factor for the current threat on environment as the climate change being witnessed today is posing a threat on future of the mankind.
