Protest rowing in contaminated pond

  • 27/07/2003

In a novel agitation that attracted large crowds, a person named Krishnakumar, secretary of Threthayuga Vedi, a local organisation, went on an indefinite fast in the contaminated Mithranandapuram pond at West Fort in Thiruvanathapuram, in protest against the lack of initiatives by authorities to clean the pond. The local people who thronged the area in large numbers also supported Krishnakumar considering the cause of the protest. The pond had not been cleaned over the past several years following a dispute between authorities over its ownership. It had become a breeding centre of vectors, they said.
