Pulse polio drops administered to over four lakh children in two districts

Mobile teams deployed to administer drops in remote areas Over 4.13 lakh children below the age of five were administered oral polio vaccine at the intensive pulse polio campaign held in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts on Sunday. The vaccinations were administered to the children in 1,874 centres including 73 urban centres in Krishnagiri, Hosur and Dharmapuri municipalities. Besides this, mobile teams, including 61 in Dharmapuri district, were deployed. Collector T.P. Rajesh inaugurated the campaign by administering the vaccine to the children in Kaveripattinam town. In Krishnagiri district, about 2.53 lakh doses of polio vaccine were distributed for administering to the children. Both rural and urban areas were covered during the campaign. Children of migrant parents were given the vaccine. The vaccination was administered at all primary health centres and government hospitals in the districts. Special camps would be set up at places of worship, tourist spots, railway stations, and bus stands. Mobile teams were deployed to administer the drops to children in remote areas. The campaign was conducted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. As many as 3,804 government employees drawn from various departments apart from volunteers carried out the campaign. In Dharmapuri district, over 1.60 lakh children were administered oral polio vaccine through 923 centres including 20 urban centres in Dharmapuri Municipality. Collector K. Vivekanandan inaugurated the pulse polio campaign at the Primary Health Centre at Nallampalli near Dharmapuri. Sixty-one mobile teams were formed to administer the drops for the children living in remote areas. As many as 4000 government employees and volunteers from NGOs, Rotary Clubs were involved in the exercise, releases from the districts said.
