The Centre said that Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan were overusing their groundwater reserves, making them the most overexploited states in the country. As per a joint assessment of groundwater resources carried out by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and the states, a large majority of replenishable groundwater resource assessment units falling under the overexploited category were located in these four states.
