CHANDIGARH: With the commissioning of its state-of-the-art integrated pulp and paper project on Wednesday, Abhishek Industries Limited (AIL), the flagship of the Trident Group, claims to have emerged as the world's largest wheat straw-based integrated paper plant. According to a spokesperson of the company, the new project, set up with an investment of Rs.825 crore, includes an additional paper machine with an installed capacity of 1.25 lakh tonnes per annum (tpa). The total capacity of the company's paper division, based in Barnala district, has now risen to 1.75 lakh tpa which is described as the largest facility in the world in this category of paper production. The Trident Group, which has a business portfolio encompassing products ranging from home textiles to retail, yarn, IT, energy and chemicals, also successfully established a new paper machine to produce value-added paper segments like A4 copier varieties, SS Maplitho and pigmented paper. The project expansion also increases the capacity of the pulping facility to 1.25 lakh tpa.
