Even gods have to suffer environmental degradation. Forests of Phasi, Asana and Dharua trees, used in building the gigantic chariots of Lord Jagannath during the famous car festival here, have become scarce and temple authorities have been facing difficulty in arranging the wood. Now under a Rs 65 crore government project, the trees are to be planted in an area of 2800 hectares along the Mahanadi in districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Phulbani, Cuttack and Dhenkanal.
