Expand Govt-NGO partnership : The partnership between governments and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) must be expanded so that NGOs are not viewed as a threat in conservation and development issues, said Queen Noor Al-Hussein of Jordan. Other government ministries like finance, commerce and trade, that have a say in deciding the future of national resources also need to become active players, she said. Queen Noor, the president of Birdlife International, said many governments did not appreciate the role NGOs could play in such matters. She was speaking at the Birdlife International Global Partnership meeting yesterday. About 300 bird conservation experts from around the world are attending the meeting which will be followed by the 22nd Birdlife International World Conference today.
