Radioactive waste turned to stone

Synroc International is using a new Australian technique for locking radioactive waste into a ceramic material that can be buried in rock with, it claims, no fear of pollution. The technology has been demonstrated to the House of Lords select committee on science and technology. The committee is expected to report soon whether the technology is a viable alternative to current methods. Synroc's eventual aim is to manufacture complete waste-treatment plants and export them all over the world.
